Stock Ref: AST 1775

A very good clean example of a WW1 RNR Officers sword with a beautiful frost etched blade.

81cm (32”) slightly curved single fullered blade with spear point. The blade is single edged except for the last 10.5”. The blade is frost etched and decorated on one side with the royal coat of arms and the royal cypher for George V. There is a brass proof disc.

Solid brass gothic style hilt with crowned fouled anchor and Tudor crown, and RNR. Lions head pommel with full length mane back piece. White fish skin grip bound with brass wire. Fold down guard.

Maker: Possibly Gieve, Matthews and Seagrove. (Traded from Portsmouth 1904-1916 and also Devonport. The style of the proof mark matches this firm.)

Dated: 1910-1918

Black leather scabbard with brass mounts.

The sword and scabbard are in very good condition. The blade is excellent with only minor staining. The etchings remain very clear. The guard and grip are in very good order. The scabbard is in very good condition, the seam is good and the brass mounts undamaged.

With minor refurbishment this sword would be suitable for a current naval officer.
