BRITISH 1856 MK1 BAND SWORD - DRUMMERS SWORD – VICTORIAN – THE ROYAL SCOTS

A very good well marked example to The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment)

48.5cm (19”) straight parallel sided diamond profile plain blade with prominent medial ridge and spear point. The forte of the blade edges stamped with various inspection marks.

Heavy brass cruciform hilt, the quillons ending in trefoils and the ecusson bearing the cypher of Queen Victoria. The back of the hilt is stamped R.P. D RS 1 (Probably Company D 1st Battalion The Royal Scots) and an inspection mark, and the other side is stamped 1.90.

Black leather scabbard with heavy brass mounts. The locket with a single frog stud and stamped 6 88 on the top mount.

The sword and scabbard are in very good condition for their age and service use. The blade has some rust marks and minor pitting near the point and some small knicks on the edges. The hilt is in very good condition and is firm on the tang. The scabbard leather has minor scuffing but the stitching is intact. The brass work has some small dents and the rivet to the chape is missing.
